Wuthering Heights - from the arty to the insulting...

Now this post will be focusing on "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Brontë, however, not the content or style of the book but the covers that it has been given. I've said it before and I'll say it again: covers are so important. They are what attracts us to books that we have never heard of and just spot in the bookshop. Here are some example of the covers that "Wuthering Heights" have been given...

The arty, edgy one which I have to admit I quite like:

The cheesy and down-right insulting one (please notice the badge saying "Bella and Edward's favourite book!!! PLEASE spare me):

The boring one with the sheep (?!? need I say more):

The classic, emotional cover - which is really rather pretty:

The hardcover hottie:

What are your thoughts on the covers?

  2. Hey, I love the arty one at the top - I'm surprised to see the Penguin logo on it. I associate them more with "classic", i.e. quite boring covers! The one with the sheep looks familiar - I think that might be the one I read...

  3. I just bought the artsy one at Borders. They had one copy left an I had been admiring that cover for some time! The hardcover hottie is nice also. It has that old book feel to it!

  4. I know, the arty one is really special. I think it is great that they give us even more reason to buy classics by making them look so great!

  5. I prefer the classical one. The Twilight one is...a travesty.

  6. I love the artsy Penguin one, they've re-done a bunch of Classics and the Jane Eyre one is wonderful. God knows what they were thinking with the Twilight rip off, it's just awful!

  7. Love the covers! The first one reminds me of the movie version of Neil Gaiman's 'Coraline'. The second one seems to be inspired by the covers of the 'Twilight' series. The third one is a Wordsworth edition - I love Wordsworth covers and editions. The Oxford cover is beautiful - I love Oxford covers too! The hardback cover looks interesting! Wonderful post, Willa :)

  8. OMG, Bella and Edward's favourite book? That cracks me up. Those publishers are just great! I am sure Emily Bronte would be more than pleased that she is now being pitched as the favourite book of a fictional klutzy girl and a vampire. Hilarious (and insulting, yes!)
